Denied Access to Folder

    Vista 64 Home Edition. Apparently just out of the blue, I cannot access
    my folder called Documents and Settings. I can see it/find it when
    using a search program but when I click on it I get the message:
    "Access Denied". I was able to put things in this file, I am the only
    one using this computer and there have been no reinstalls of any kind.
    I think it must have something to do with permissions. I have tried
    Windows help but help is written for people who really don't need help.
    Help anyone? Thanks.

    In Vista, "Documents and Settings" is not a folder.
    Vista uses a different file structure than XP does/did. Those familiar
    folder names you may be used to, like "My Documents", "Documents &
    Settings", etc.
    are not folders in Vista. They are junction points, and are used for legacy
    programs which were written to utilize the XP file structure. They will
    redirect the programs to use the equivalent Vista folders.
    If you keep the protected operating system files hidden, you won't see them.

    In Vista......
    Documents & Settings -> \Users
    My Documents -> \Users\youraccount\Documents
    My Music -> \Users\youraccount\Music
    Application Data -> \Users\youraccount\AppData
    etc.

    That folder does not actaully exist in Vista, you see its name only as a
    "phantom" - a remnant from old WindowsXp which allows older programs to find
    where to store their data, once they hit that folder it tells them to look
    in a DIFFERENT - actual folder, I think it's now called simply "Documents"
    or Users-->Documents, don't remember.

    SO these phantom folders are called "junction points", the stuff that used
    to be in them is now in different (actual) folders in Vista

    Ignore it, dont click on it again because you will always get "no access"
    error.
