delete a non existent service

Discussion in 'Windows Vista' started by keepout@yahoo.com.invalid, Jul 2, 2009.

  1. It's pretty much just an annoyance now. I long ago removed everything else
    associated with it.
I have removed single name services. But the same steps don't work for this
    thing.
McAfee SiteAdvisor Service. It's grayed out in the services list, The path no
longer exists. And yet here it is in my task manager, and the services list.
How do I remove it from my list of services ?

Try looking under here in Regedit
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

That was just a start. The answer was in the registry. Just had to login as
admin, and find EVERY instance of it. Had to change the permissions in the
legacy links. But it looks like it's finally gone.
