What an idiot. You have no clue how your computer works, and your son has
to guide you through to figure **** out, yet you slam Vista. Vista is way
over your head and you will have much trouble trying to figure out how it
    works.

I suggest speaking with Alias and he will help you remove Vista and install
Ubuntu. That way you can surf the net and read e-mail. Stay away from the
    complicated tasks.

    Just FYI.

You CAN set Windows to show the full file names with extensions. My
guess is these files have a .PDF extension, which is why Acrobat Reader
    can view them.

I got rid of the widgets, turned off user account controls, and have
    been well satisfied with Vista.

I've been running with UAC off since about 30 minutes after installing
Vista. I found all the UAC crap so freaking annoying while trying to
install all of my programs that it was the FIRST tweak I applied.
    I've never regretted it.

    Thanks, Manny, I needed that...

Time frame is about right although I may have taken more than 30 minutes
to get rid of UAC last August.

With an up to date a/v system and a good firewall I would not expect any
problems and haven't had any yet.
