hello whenever i try to perform a destructive system recovery on my cpu it ends up bringing me to the log in screen and when this happens it says other user (instead of listing the logins i currently have) and i cannot log in with any information it tells me the domain cant be contacted or doesnt exist im obviously using vista and im on a gateway if anyone has any insight to this it would be greatly appreciated. :)

edit - ive performed destructive recoveries before without the use of a cd so i know i should be able to do it

Surely a Destructive System Recovery is just what it says??? It restores your PC back to new just like it was the day you got it. It clears all data so unless I am missing something you need to reinstall all your software again.

I have this fear that we are getting bogged down in terms.

Alan has interpreted your "Destructive Recovery" as a format and re installation of your entire system. I think he is correct but I have no idea what you did to accomplish this. There are a number of methods from using installation disks or recovery partitions built into your hard drive.

There are many kinds of software and many means of obtaining software. Are you referring to your operating system (Windows ) as the software.

A CPU is the central Processing Unit or processor. It contains no software and is not something you recover. I am not being a wiseguy but I am not sure we are all on the same page.
