Can't open Excel 2007 with double click

I repaired and uninstalled then installed Office 2007. I opened Excel up and
search for my Excel Spread Sheet and open it and then save as on my desktop
like I always do. Then when I double click on the Icon I get "Windows can
not find C:\User etc. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try
again. Any excel spreadsheet I have I get the same message when I double
click on it. I check the path and it is correct.

  2. Something seems gone wrong with registry, or some viral attack. I suggest
    below options.
    1. Right click > Properties, select Open with Application (select
    EXCEL.EXE from Programming files\Microsoft Office\...)

    Or

    2. Remove and re-install MS Office.

Is the WHOLE path displayed or only part of it?

Try right clicking the spreadsheet file in Windows Explorer, and
send it's shortcut to the desktop. It should create a desktop icon
with the proper "Target" and "Start in" paths.

Sounds like the file association is barfed. The path either needs to
be enclosed in double quotes and needs to have "%1" (with the quotes)
at the end - as found in Win Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > Files
    types.
