Can't install Adobe AIR/BBC iPlayer

I have been trying to dowload programmes from the BBC iplayer site but
first it tries to install Adobe AIR. This fails, giving a meaningless
Windows message stating that the installer has stopped working. I can't
get the Manage Attachments feature to work so I can't upload images of
the error messages. I have an administrator account.

Following instruction, I downloaded AIR directly from the Adobe site
and found that it still wouldn't install on my account. It asks me
twice if I want to run the installation exe file but from two different
locations which is weird. Once again I can't upload an image for some
reason but the first Open File dialogue box has:
    Name: ...mon Gail_Becx\Desktop\AdobeAIRInstaller.exe
    Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated
    Type: Application
    From: C:\Users\Simon Gail & Becx\Desktop\AdobeAIRI...

and the second dialogue box has:
    Name: ...\Temp\Low\AIR5415.tmp\Adobe AIR Installer.exe
    Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated
    Type: Application
    From: C:\Users\SIMON~1\AppData\Local\Temp\Low\...

After I select 'run' for the second time nothing happens. If I go to
Task Manager then two Adobe AIR installation processes are running but
nothing ever happens. I manually stop the processes. The suggested
Adobe installation log file never shows anything. If I log on as my
daughter then AIR installs perfectly! Unfortunately when I return to
the BBC iplayer website on her account then the file download fails
some sort of 'check' (a BBC/Adobe check rather than a Windows one) and
stops. If I return to the BBC site on my account then it just tries to
    install AIR again!

BBC don't support their iPlayer software.

Adobe have been unable to help, though I'm not convinced they're
actually prepared to try that hard.

I get the impression it's always someone else's problem.

Any thoughts would be very gratefully received.

    Thanks,

    Si.

You could try... right clicking the installer and run as administrator.

    Hi, Si..

Is this in 64-bit IE? Have you tried it in 32-bit IE?

    See this Adobe TechNote:

The key line says, "Adobe Flash Player is not supported for playback in a
64-bit browser. However, you can run Flash Player in a 32-bit browser
running on a 64-bit operating system."

While the TechNote mentions only Flash Player, if you type "64-bit air" into
that "Search Support" box, this TechNote is about the 4th hit and the entry
    says:
"Oct 14, 2008 ... Adobe is working on Flash Player support for 64-bit
platforms as part of our ...
"Adobe Audition, After Effects, Adobe AIR, Adobe AIR SDK ..."

I don't know anything about AIR, but I know that Flash runs in 32-bit IE8 in
    64-bit Win7, but not in 64-bit IE8.

Somebody needs to inform Adobe that we are no longer in the 20th Century.

I did. That's why I wrote "Adobe have been unable to help, though I'm
not convinced they're actually prepared to try that hard."
