Hello. I have a vista laptop which has been running with absolutely no
problems for about one year. I switched it on just now, and apart from
noticing my computer was slower than normal, I realised I had to
uninstall an unwanted toolbar. I clicked on the control panel on the
start/task pane, and was greeted with a blank window with an hourglass
(well, the blue ring that indicates things are loading). I closed it,
went on the internet for a few minutes and tried again, with the same
response. I then tried to open a document, and faced the same problem. I
can open internet explorer, and other programs like itunes or games or
sound recorder. But Computer, Control Panel, Documents, etc. all fail to
load. When I hit ctrl-alt-del it says windows explorer is not
responding. The options are wait or close program, and neither have any
    effect.

I ran a systems scan, and this was the result:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix
some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log
    windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log For example
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
    C:\Windows\System32>

I'll be honest with you, I'm an English Lit student and this is greek
to me. I have no idea what this means, what to do next, what has
happened to my laptop, or what could have caused this. Please help me
    out if you can.

    Scan for malware:

Do not skip the preparatory work.

If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair
shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be
aware that not all local shops are skilled at removing malware and even if
they are, your computer may be so infested that Windows will need to be
clean-installed. If possible, have all your data backed up before you take
    the machine into a shop.

    Hi,

You are infected with malware. Suggest you run scans with tools like
malwarebytes, spybot search & destroy, or adaware.

    Type in a command prompt

    findstr /c:"[SR] Cannot" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log |more

to see what files it is talking about
