Cannot install sp 2

    I get the same message every time I try to install, ELEMENT NOT FOUND.
    DETAILS

    ERROR: ERROR_NOT_FOUND(0x80070490), can anyone help. Thanks.

    I have tried safe mode, disabled antivirus, malware, and other programs to
    install to no avail.

    0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND
    Corrupted System File; Need to perform an in-place upgrade or reinstall of
    the OS.

    The error you are receiving occurs if there is corruption in the Component
    Based Servicing manifest.

    Ignore the title : The "Windows Features" dialog box is empty in Windows 7
    or Windows Vista, or you receive an error message that includes the
    following code when you try to use Windows Update: "0x80073712"

    Explains SFC / Scannow"

    A repair install is the usual solution of SFC /Scannow doesn't work.

    You receive a "0x80070490" error code when you use Windows Update or
    Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates


    1. Run "msconfig", and then disable all startup items. Under "Services",
    hide all Microsoft services and then disable other ones.

    2. Reboot the computer, then disconnect it from the network and disable
    antivirus/spyware software.

    3. Insert the Windows Vista DVD to the drive.

    4. In the setup window, click "Install Now".

    5. Click "Go online to obtain the latest updates for installation
    (recommended)."

    6. Type the CD key if you are prompted to do this.

    7. Click "Yes" to accept the Microsoft Software License Terms.

    8. On the "Which kind of installation to you want?" screen, click "Upgrade".

    9. When the installation is complete, restart your computer, and then try
    to install the updates.

    NB: If you've installed SP1 for Vista

    Step 7 (method for Windows Vista), the *UPGRADE* option is not available
    because SP1 has been installed.

    Uninstall SP1
