Black Desktop

Discussion in 'Windows Vista' started by Graham Naylor, Jun 18, 2009.

  1. Hi,

My wife has a Compaq portable bought from a reputable dealer with a genuine
copy of Vista installed, this has been working fine for over a year but
this morning when she switched on the desktop was Black (Icons still
normally coloured), "Personalize Setting" won't allow the desktop colour or
    image to be changed.

No software or hardware has been changed recently.

Any ideas on what could be wrong.

Thanks in advance for any help

    Graham

    Hi, Graham.

Does she use a DreamScene background? I haven't used Vista much in the 8
months since Win7 builds started arriving, but I did use DreamScene. It was
quite fragile and often got knocked out, resulting in a black background for
all my icons. The cure was to right-click the Desktop, choose Personalize,
and choose a DreamScene again. At least, that's the way I remember it. ;^]

In Control Panel\Ease of Access Center\Make the computer easier to see, is
there a checkmark in "Remove background images"? If so, uncheck it (Apply,
    Save).
