Just spent a mind-boggling 20 minute with a representative from Telus (the poor young woman!) - trying to have her explain about the "Optic Bundle" they are offering their customers.

    Question:
We have 3 televisions - Does high definition TV Optic need something to hook up to to make it work?

Answer: You get a free XBox 360 when signing up for the Bundle .... you only need 1 PVR in your house ... the XBox can be used as one receiver for one television and two receivers for your other two televisions ... you can rent a HD PVR or rent a HD receiver ...

Bet all this is 'plain English' for darn near everyone else but cripes, I may go off an console myself with a good stiff drink!:snckr:

    I agree,a stiff drink would be in order,Mara. :D

Would be nice if they spoke in plain English.

New TV's here, are Full HD,so we don't need a Set Top Box. :)

That means they are 'wired for high definition', right? I wonder if ours is - it's just 2 years old. Hmmm.

But you're right - a lovely Scotch on ice is called for right about now, Doug - huge grin.

HD television is great and while some of the older ones that labled themselves HD ready do need a converter. Modern HD TVs do not. Of course there is one small catch. There needs to be programming "broadcast" in HD. IN the US I believe that most of the Major networks broadcast in HD.
In Canada HD over the air content is limited to loops showing continuous replays of the Dudlely Do-Right portions of the Rocky and Bullwinkle show. (This is by law so there is no way around it.)

The bottom line is that most of us are stuck with some form of cable or satellite converter.

Yike! This is really good to know, Barry, and I'm not quite ready for the Bullwinkle show :snckr:. And it was interesting to realize that what we'd get here in Canada on 'High Definition' is vastly different than what's available just a few miles from our home, in the States. Hmm.

Right now we have cable from Shaw (and are quite happy with the channels we get) and from Telus we get telephone and ADSL connection for our computer. By combining everything solely with Telus, it's quite a saving of nearly $70 a month .... so now that I understand things a bit better, thanks to you and Doug, Barry - can just call them back and ensure we'll still get our regular tv channels without 'High Definition' too.

    Thanks so much once again.

I am assuming that you don't have a HD tv. Otherwise, unless you have an antenna as an alternate you will get no HD without a HD box.

Our two year old TV is 'HD Ready' (according to the booklet that came with it) - so with a little luck, can simply get everything sorted out soon with Telus. Their staff as very nice but, quite understandable I suppose, assume everyone is fully knowledgeable able all the newer technology.

Judging by her answer to your question, I would say she has no more Idea than you, just a set of sales lines memorised with no real Idea what they mean ;)
