This is really neat. A friend sent me this and it depicts current world air traffic over a 24 hour period, not sure when this happened or what day it was. Anyways, I thought maybe some members would be curious about it.

It brings quite a few things to mind, you hear now and then the concerns of air polution from jet engine exhaust gasses, look up and on a clear day you may see one or two aircraft at various altitudes and wonder why the concern. When you see that map, it becomes a lot more obvious why there is so much concern when you consider each long distance flight burns hundreds of gallons of fuel.

On a lighter note, on the roads, to avoid a collision you have the chance to go left or right. In an airplane, there is no hedges, walls, or fences to worry about,-

    You are way out, Nev.
Not hundreds of gallons, it's thousands of gallons
747-400 Flying from london to Malaysia burns up approx 31,000 US gallons of fuel.
    A 747 on a 10 hr flight burns 36,000 gallons (150,000 liters) of fuel.
That has to be a lot of pollution.

Indeed a lot, I stand corrected, which does make for some high level of exhaust pollution entering the atmosphere every day.
