There was a man from Tralee,
Who got stung on the neck by a Wasp,
    When asked if it hurt,
    He said "Not a bit"
"It can do it again if it likes.

    Boom Boom.

Thre was a woman called Mary
Who had legs that were all hairy,
    She shaved them and said
    "I fell off the bed,
Next time I'll just be more wary"

I know well a woman called Lyn
Who's heading to the loony bin
    She works at the pc
    And oft asks "why me?"

Most people of my generation were taught this poem in grade school and believe it or not, I use to be able to recite it word for word.

There are strange things done in the midnight sun
    [IMG]By the men who moil for gold;
[IMG]The Arctic trails have their secret tales
    [IMG]That would make your blood run cold;
[IMG]The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
[IMG]But the queerest they ever did see
[IMG]Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
    [IMG]I cremated Sam McGee.

I posted a link to the whole poem for those of you who may be interested in reading it. The poem is to large to post it all here.

Cool! Is the thread restricted strictly to lyrical poetry or is prose permitted?

Prose poetry is permitted as long as it falls within CHF guidelines.
As far as being popular I doubt it however that's only my opinion.
It is not your everyday poetry.
If you post prose poetry give note to the Author.

    OK.... here goes.

    Flight of Eagles

It is a misty night and the fog makes it impossible to see more than a few feet clearly.

I am filled with trepidation at the thought of meeting you. I wander about the intersection awaiting your arrival. I freeze in mid step as I see a shape approach. Even though we have never met I know that it must be you. My throat feels constricted as I watch you approach, my hands tremble. The closer you come the clearer the world appears. As you near, your hand extended, the world begins to change.

Your finger tips meet mine and the world stops. I look down amazed as I do not see a hand. I see a wing tip and the same for what should have be mine. My world turns upside down. The land of the Earth is no longer my realm. My world becomes the sky.

As we touch we take flight and soar through the heavens. We speak, but not in words, we speak a language of concepts and ideas. We speak life.

We flow as though part of the air, as if we are pure elements of the Earth. We are free of all restraints. We fly over a pond and I truly see us for the first time. I do not see souls restricted by gravity but rather eagles flying free. We fly over leas and glens with total abandon. I spot a rabbit but am no threat, my sole awareness resides within you.

In a heartbeat this flight becomes my total world. We soar through the currents of space and time as though we were the center of universe. We meld as one.

The hand shake ends and the intersection is shrouded in mist. We walk arm in arm to our destination.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear,
My change just fell into my beer (Who hasn't been there eh? )
It left my hand in a dash,
and fell in with a splash,
I hope it won't make it taste queer.

So how do I now get it out?
Wil it slide into my teeth with a clout?
Can I reach it with a finger,
    and hope it won't linger
do I cheer, or maybe just shout?

The answer is to get a fresh glass,
from the bar maid, a wonderful lass.
pour from one to the other.
    it should be no bother
hurray I've retreived all my brass.

    Nev.
