    Right,

you mentioned a network bridge (this is not something you need) a bridge is where you join 2 network adapters to perform as one. If you have a bridge listed in your network connections REMOVE it.

Then connect wirelessly, (search for a signal also known as an SSID (which is the name the router broadcasts such as D link 2, you will also see any neighbours routers that are within range) you will need to insert a passphrase to access your router to allow traffic to pass to your device. (this is under the assumption you have set your router to broadcast its SSID and have set an encryption method WPA, WPA2, WEP etc and a passphrase)

Those instructions were given (direct from the manual for her router).

    Ah ok,
I just thought we were covering basic bases here.

    Lizzie,

Can you open control panel and then system then device manager, can you check next to network adapters and check that there are no yellow exclamation marks.
Also on most laptops you have a button to enable the wireless, have you done that too?

It will only be something simple that you or we have missed. technically when you plug a router in and run the wizard it will configure it all for you.

Since you're connecting properly with other wireless access points, that indicates your computer is operating properly. Since you're haveine intermittently with only your router, then consider the possibility that your router has an intermittent wireless signal. Can you connect other computer wirelessly to your router reliability.

Another possibility is that you're getting interference from other wireless sources such as a cordless phone or microwave oven. Also consider what's between your computer and router. Someone opening a refridgertor door if it's between the laptop and router may cause you to lose signal. How far is the laptop from the router and what objects are inbetween?
