Yes. Did it once before on the same computer and it went off well. Of course back up always. Did the file checker already. Came up clean. This is the first time I am totally at my wits end with a computer issue. I can for the most part figure things out myself or some one like you great people on this forum can. The computer is about 9 years old. I may just get a new one. But I will try the recovery and let you know what happened. Thanks for all the support to all who responded.

Did the recovery. Success. Now I have the task of setting up the computer the way I had it.

We've all been there James....dozens of times.

In discussion with some other members, there is a concern with the state of your hard drive. You might want to run hard drive diagnostics. Let us know if you have any questions regarding that.

I lost the webcam after the recovery just like the last time. Can't remember or find where I got the drivers from. Dell Inspiron 1749 5000 series.

Sorry gave you the wrong model number its 5749. Not 3rd party. Thanks for info but I found out the drivers I need are not listed any more on the Dell support site. Contacted Dell Support chat trying to get the drivers. They disconnected me. Useless. When I first got this computer I had to contact support because the webcam had no drivers. They emailed it to me. Do you have any idea how I can get them? Also now I can't load the printer drivers. What a mess.

I don't recall ever seeing separate webcam drivers. This is weird though, as the recovery would just reload the drivers and programs that the computer came with.

Are you trying to load the printers from a disk? If so, forget about the disk, and download the latest driver package from the printer's manufacturer site.

...OH wait! Before doing anything else, update Windows 7. The newly installed W7 will be far behind for updates. Keep going back to Windows update until it shows no more updates available. That procedure alone will take 2-3 hours. Thankfully though, it's all just wait time.

    Also James,

If the cam doesn't work after the updates, then go to Dell's site, but instead of entering the model number, enter the Service Tag #. It might then list the cam driver if available.

Thanks again! Like I said the webcam was not working right out of the box. The software I think is called Dell webcam central.

I saw webcam central as well, but didn't look into it just yet. Have you done all the W7 updates as per post #30?

Everything is working except the web cam. It shows in device manager and says drivers are up to date. I can't find it anywhere on the computer to start it. I think the webcam central software is the key to start it. The printer drivers loaded when I plugged in the printer.
