I have Ibm 390X laptop..Windows XP was installed on it when I got it a couple weeks ago, problem is when you shut down from windows you have to pull the power cord and also the battery has to be removed for a few seconds or else the system hangs at the shut down logo and will not reboot untill you do the power stuff. I have allready installed every update and patch from IBM...including bios update. I recently had a IBM 390E that did not have this problem but it was running windows ME.....any ideas?

Ok now I have installed Windows ME and still have the same problem...even after loading all updates and driivers....now I am really confused!!!!
everything worked great on the 390E, but it seems nothing will fix this driver problem on the 390X.

Right click on the desktop, goto Properties>SCREENSAVERS, then POWER >You should then see a tab called APM (Advanced Power MANAGEMENT) Or just go into the control panel and click POWER OPTIONS. Check the box to enable APM. REBOOT ONCE, everything should then be OK.

If not then there is a simple registry hack I'll give you to get it to shut down.

I'll bet its disabled in the BIOS settings, Enable APM in BIOS under power management.

BTW, what is a 390x, I was just curious, Pentium III correct ?

Oh theres gotta be something there that lets you enable/disable APM/API. Its not that old of a laptop. Though I'm sure the BIOS is pretty cheesy.

    Try THIS LINK:

just double click it, don't worry if your antivirus shows it as a malicious script, its just a registry hack to make everything shutdown on exit.
