I will read and study that page. Maybe once I get PC open it will makemore sense, and I hope maybe the wires are color coded to match. If not, I will have to figure out how to match them up and get them in the right place. WIll post again after I have opened it up and taken a look. Couldnt be all THAT hard.

On second thought maybe it COULD be. Fewer cables in the S4000NX. Rich: are you reasonably sure this power supply will work?
Should I try to match up the colored wires? The original has numbers-P8,P5,P3 not used; P2, p4, P7 are, and I think 2 without numbers I can see if there are any. Not quite sure how to begin.

The replacement power supply you have bought, being of better quality will have a few extras, these are intended to power additional cards such as graphics cards or other add ons such as extra hard drives or CD/DVD drives.
Colours of wires are standard, so yes to matching them, however also important is matching the actual plugs. The simple answer is to pull an existing plug off, then look at how many pins it has, and also the pattern the pins are in, then look on the new power supply for an exact match, both the plug and wire colours. Once you have both of those, then that plug goes where the old one went.
Any extras after you have replaced all connectors, even if a perfect match to those you have already used, are just that, extras for powering add ons as I said earlier.

As DSTM and Nev suggested BG sort out the different kinds of plugs as you can see ide molar plugs vs sata etc...
to the best of my knowledge the color of the wires means nothing but the type of connection is everything.
Sorry I did not see any of these answers as for some reason I almost never receive email notice of a post in a thread I am in here on this forum.

Rich: If not here, where are you to be found now?

Good news: Got power supply in ans PC works. Bad news: Still reboots but if I leave it on all day I see evidence of having rebooted but is on as much as 12 hours later. And I can do thingss on it. As I watch it at least I dont see it rebooting over and over continuouslyy off and on. Dont know if it is power supply that helped or just needed some use. I am using and watching it and have to say whatever the reason it IS more usable.

Aside: screen resolution is 1024x768 but font size on forum is much smaller than on other PCs. Is there a screen resolution setting for forum fontS? If so I never saw or used one. If not I will try different resolutions.

I am here and on TSF (http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/) and unfortunately I get about every 4th post email notice here on CHF whereas I get every single one on TSF.

It sounds like we fixed part of the problem and perhaps the most annoying part which is a steady flow of power.
Have you blown out the heatsink and other areas insides of the case with a "can of air" since its open? Sounds like there may be a loose wire hitting something metal, something dirty or an 0ld out dated driver for some piece of hardware.
Clean out the system carefully and then have a go with Driver Verifier BG.

Thanks Rich...I guess I knew this on some level. PC does seem to stay on a lot longer and be more usable than before. I will try some of the fine tuning.

Text quality is maybe the cheap Acer monitor I got which seems to be set too bright and I have never gone to trouble of learniing how to use the settings which are not exactly easy to comrehend. Screen resolution seems best of choices, Zoom In also helps.

Tony is also right the caps on the board you can like at while blowing out the system. I seldom do anything with monitors except auto resolution. It might also be a problem with the resolution you set on the system as most monitors lately seem to look crappy in most settings except the 2-3 acceptable (bold print) settings they want you to use.
