The issue with this is that no software is made for Windows XP so the new printer may not be combatable. To be perfectly honest nothing is being made for windows any more.
    Was replaced by Skype.

Have you tried signing going to google.com then select GMail in the upper right then in the same area click sign in.

Why not reread post 38 as it was suggested you download the driver from HP. www.google.com
will give you the email for Gmail once you sign in and make that your home page on top right margin.

Well Rustys and I posted at same time and I forgot is Windows XP so drivers more than likely won't be there.
Autorun may not work put cd in tray and click on cd-dvd drive and choose "install or setup" or "open" if the others
    are not there.

Following your advice I was able to access my e_mail, thank you! The problem seems to be that I cannot install the software for my printer (HP Model 3634 ) on my computer. I hope to use it wireless, but to set it up I need to install the Software. When I try useimg the disc that came with it, it does not appear on the screen and after a minute or so , I get message " Windows had encountered a problem and needs to close "

Again I downloaded the software for the printer from HP and when I tried to install it from my download , it went thru the "extracting process " and after a minute or so I again got the same message on the screen " Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close " it offers a check box to reportage problem to Microsoft which I checked. It also said that text file included in the report was " c\documen~Ralph\Locals\Temp\6e51-ci"fpcompat,bt

Is it the HP software that is not installing or are you having issues install any software?

Do you have SP2 or SP3 installed?

Press the Windows Key+R and type "winver" with out the quotes.

It may require SP3 to be installed. Should look something like this.

Also have you checked the error logs to see what they show?

Start Right click on My Computer
    Select Manage
Click the + sign next to Event Viewer

Go through the logs and see if there is ant thing there.
