Yeah you and me both! I find it actually hard to remember XP

 

That sounds confusing Cindy as you won't install IE 8 on XP Sp1 I don't believe. I am almost sure I tried that once and could not do it until I had at least SP2 installed
but as I said before those memories of XP have really faded for me.

 

I would try to install it, but when Rich mentioned that you need SP2 to install IE8 it came flooding back.

 

I know that ie6 will install on XP with SP1 so install that and updates should work.

Yes you can do that. You might even get 7 on there, that I am not sure of either.

 

I was typing 7 when I something told me not to. Again, been awhile since I've played with XP.

Like myself who has limited knowledge of computers . I have learned a lot from your posts.
I asked one of neighbors, who is a retired technical director for major computer company
If he could download SP 3 and IE 8 to a C D for me and explained why I needed lt.He replied ' let me have your laptop for a couple of days and I will bring it is up the latest configuration it's capable of installing all of the updates " I am going to accept his most generous offer, but again I want to thank you all for your unselfish help I will post a reply on this thread and let you know how it works

I got my computer back from my neighbor and it works well .he updated it to the highest level it was capable of . Now if I can get my printer working I'll be be back in business again! Again, thanks to all for your unselfish help.

 

Glad you're up and running again. Go to the printers manufacture webpage and select support and find your model, select the Windows version you now are running and download the drivers/software. If you give us the printers manufacture and model number along with the Windows you are now running we'll be glad to find them for you.

 

I am back again, every thing seemed to work well except when I start up msn messenger my opening screen. And I can't find google e-mail to access my mail. Also I purchased anew printer, an HP model 3634,When I try to install the installation disc ,it won't even open, and after a minute or so, I get a message " windows has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" there is a box to check if I want the problem reported to Microsoft I checked yes .the next day when I started up there was a message from Microsoft
Saying they had deleted something from c// Ralph's document... I have tried several times since but get the same message and the disc won't open. I downloaded the
Start up info from HP and it is I'm my document folder on
The computer but when I try to install it the same thing happens as described above. The printer works fine from my kindle and shows that it connected to my network.Also
My computer is connected try network wireless. I can access the internet wirelessly with my computer And kindle, Could it be that my document file in windows XP is corrupted?
Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated!
