I havent used this computer lately and if so only for a short time and turned it off. Today I turned it on and it wanted to install 61 important updates and 14 optional updates. Last updates 9/30/2015. I clicked to install and left PC on a few hours then checked back. It said Downloading 75 updates 0 KB total, 0% complete.
The green bar shows it is downloading updates. Why does it say 0? Does it wait until finished all before showing progress? If not, why can there be no progress shown.... I expected the numbers to change along the way?

For some reason lately it has been taking until just before you install the updates to show the percentage. There could also be a large file that it is downloading and depending on the amount of traffic there could be some delay.

I believe that there were some updates that corrects this as well.

When you shut down your Computer, the updates should install.

Rustys: You were correct. I left PC on all night and this morning it showed 81% complete and 60 updates of 75 completed.

Dougie: updates are not quite done, it IS showing progress, and when finished I shall shut Off PC and see if they install. I didnt realize the progress shown did not appear until later on.
Actually as I look closely it says INSTALLING update 66 of 75.

All installed. Now I see 151 MB of NEW updates available. So will leave it on and get them. Maybe will set it to automatic updates because I dont know how to choose them anyway.

Have retried this 151 MB 12 updates 3 times today so far. Which is why I like all night downloads. Seem to work better, maybe because less traffic or access. Now that i know it doesn't show any progress until almost done I will leave it and not cancel unnecessarily. Long as the green bar keeps moving.

If the download stops there are buttons to click. One says Cancel and the other says Restart. Do you think it would resume after awhile anyway, or only if the Restart button is clicked? Normally I do not watch this screen during the downloaded updates . Still going ans showing 0% complete so will check it in morning.

If that come up the the download and install have completed and all you need to do is restart the system for the new update to take affect.

Does it look like this just to confirm.

It worked like this the first time for the 75 updates. Now on 5th resume of 151MB update of 15 updates and 0% progress. Since I don't see progress until it is finished and I understand this is normal, if I shut off computer and start update again later does it resume where left off or start from beginning. I have just been leaving it on without minimizing the windows update screen as long as bar is moving and it hasn't said 'failed'. have never thought about this in the past so now am unfamiliar. Afraid to turn off for fear of losing what progress it may have made.

Right. Its been on a few days and nights now. Im on the 168.3 MB , 10 updates now. Evenwith 150 MB or more, the Verizon high speed internet should be faster than this is. I believe it is sharing time between other updaters. Seems to make the most progress overnight, in my experience. Doesnt matter....I have the time.

I forget the speed right now, and believe it varies. I will look it up. Think Verizon as a website that reports it. And all updates are finally finished and all updates of all types for 2016 have succeeded.

Your speeds are fine the slow update will continue for windows 7 they plague every one.

Until you get them caught up they will seem to be worse.
