    Hi

My Windows Server 2008 Standard is a web server, in a workgroup.
I am logged on as the main administrator.

The Windows Update section tells me, that some settings are managed by my
    administrator.
In fact I cannot switch the radio-button setting from "download updates but
let me choose . . ." to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to
    download . . ."

I am the administrator, how can I unblock this configuration section?

    Thanks for your help.

Are you logging in as the Administrator user itself or as another user name?

    Robert, thanks for your question:
This is a webserver and I renamed the original administrator name to another
name for security reasons, just after installing the OS.
In fact I can successfully proceed any administrative task, exept the
    described windows update configuration.

Can you give me any further information?

  4. Hello Patrick D.,

Do you use WSUS/SMS or similar and the policies in place are also linke to
the webserver? This can be one reason.

To the renaming of the administrator account, this is not really a security
advantage, people trying to come into your system can/will use the SID instead
of the name, which will never change. So better create additional administrative
accounts for use and DISABLE the administrator account, give it a long strong
password and store it on a safe place.

    Best regards

Hi Meinolf and thanks for your input.

The webserver is a virtual webserver situated on a hosting company's server.
I have no access to the root-operating system.
There cannot be an external WSUS/SMS because customers need to install all
    updates.
I will ask the hosting company, if there is still an external reason, why
    the radio buttons are blocked.

Nice idea to create an additional account and disabling the first
    admin-account, thanks.
