Thanks Dougie, I feel much better about it now. I should have done this a while ago, but, as we get older some of us tend to get a wee bit lazy and plus I dreaded the thought of another reformat. I had to do one back in November as my WD hdd, my main drive pooched on me. I don't seem to have much luck with western digital drives, I bought a Seagate Sata 3, 1 Tb this time and it seems to work great. The thing is, I haven't made any changes to my Pc since I installed that new drive. I haven't added or removed anything from the registry. Anyways, who knows what happened as it is all academic now.

Thanks Dougie, everything seems fine now. I have all the updates I am supposed to and I have it set to download updates but let me chose if and when to install them. Sometimes Microsoft will send an update say for your GPU or your sound card etc etc. Jaylach and I spoke of this a lot on another forum we belonged to. I prefer to go to the manufacturer's website, for a certain device and get recent drivers and or software from them. Sometimes an update from Microsoft can and will screw up your machine. I think it's the best bet.

    Cheers: Rich :grv:

That's good news, Rich. Yes I agree the manufacturers website is the best bet.
I have had my Computers screwed up on 2 occasions installing custom/optional updates.
    Normal updates, Never an issue.:)

After thinking about this a lot, the problem I had, just before it happened I received some updates from Microsoft and I think this is what screwed up my machine. I guess we will never know because I had to reformat and surprisingly enough it went rather smooth. I can't find my copy of the motherboard drivers, so I went to Asus and downloaded them. Plus I needed a driver for my realtek network card as well.

I am locking this thread because of a glitch. It seems resolved anyway and the glitch seems to be on our part. No member has done anything wrong.
