Thanks martijn this worked for me very well. I did have Security Update for
MS XML Core 4.0 SP2 (KB936118) wanting to keep reloading after the fix but I
just uninstalled it and reinstalled it and everything is working fine now.
Thank you very much for your time and effort in solving this problem.

Martijn you are a star.Did as you instructed with great success but did have
to turn of windows firewall to get the installation to work. For any of you
boys and girls that were having problems with Mcafee, updates now downloaded
    and working again.
    Thank you all.

    same problem

    here i a link

The soultion is Outdated !!!!!!!!!! but i tried to manually update Windows
defender however at the Windows Defender Page. IE7 told me the page could not
be displayed! after clicking the link on the page to download the latest

I have also read thorugh some vuage offline help articles which tells me to
    enable
" Automatically Detect Setting under" the connections tab and "lan Settings"
    in IE options (IE7)

please fix this problem soon and update all the support doucments regarding

    Hiya Martij

Many THANKS you are a STAR. This worked for me and I have been trying for
over two week with different solution from different sites. Microsoft are
useless, all they are bothered about is making money, not helping customers.
If it's not too personal, what is your nationality? |I'd take you out for a
drink at the pub if you lived near. Once again thank you.

    Guys,

Yes had the same error, tried all the updates as far as I could see. I also
had a problem connecting to the net via wireless, however LAN worked fine.
After talking with the ISP it appears windoz likes to put funny DNS names in
your TCP/IP settings. As someone else stated it could be related to windows
defender as I had updated that a while back and after a while it wouldn't
update automatically and I had to download the updates manually and install.

So the solution to the wireless was set the DNS to auto on TCP/IPv6 and for
update, same thing except for TCP/IPv4.

    So, click on
    Start/settings etwork connections
    right click local area connection
    click on properties
    select internet protocol version 4
    select properties
click on optain an IP address automatically
click on obtain DNS server addresses.

    Windows update should now work

And low and behold defenders looking for updates again!

    Hope that helps

    Pete
