Ok so I've scoured throughout the internet and have yet to find a proper fix
to this problem. I'm currently running vista x64 sp 1 and I can not access
windows update. I have done many of the .dll registry fixes "regsvr32
etc."as well as made sure that BITS was running in services I'm also pretty
confident that I don't have any viruses or trojans since I ran like 4 scans
on different programs I have tried many times to try and install sp2 for
vista but I can't since it gives me the same error. any help would be greatly
    appreciated

    Jon,
from my perspective, it appears there is a problem, imo, on MS's end.
Bunch's of consumer end users and IT folks are asking what they are doing
wrong. Of the latest 12-item high priority updates available for XP and
Office 2003, my computer was able to install only 1. Each of the remaining 11
    fixes failed to install.

I turned off my green light automatically download and install MS updates
when I realized the MS download icon in the system tray has been appearing
and disappearing for the last 2 days. With my Auto Updates now set to "notify
me only when updates are available", i manually went to the MS Updates Site.
The site reported 11 updates were available for my computer and offered to
download and install them. I figured why not, i already know what is going to
happened; and in this case it did.

I do not understand What MS is doing.
It is Obvious that this recent high priority update package is not working
    for folks.
    I don't care WHY !
All I want is the FACTS. Tell me what is going on ! Then I will make my own
decisions on what I want to do. .......
