Windows Server Backup Srvr08 - Backup to USB Drives Behavior

I note it is by design that the first time a scheduled Server 2008 WSB backup
is performed to direct attached USB, the WSB 'takes control' of the drive,
assigns a volume label and makes the USB invisible in Windows Explorer.
I went into Computer Mgmt - Disk Mgmt and assigned a drive letter and this
makes it visible again in Windows Explorer. By doing so, have I compromised
in any way the functionality of the ongoing scheduled backup and restoration
process? If so, do I need to delete and recreate the scheduled backups?

  2. I think it gets rid of the drive letter because it is treating the drive the
same way it would a tape drive (which doesn't have drive letter either).

If you use the Data Recovery Manager product (MS DPM),..I believe it does
the same thing on the media it uses.

As far as if you screwed it up,...probably so,..but I don't know for sure. I
don't use Server2008 and probably never will. It will most likely be the
next version after that before we leave Server 2003.
