Windows Server 2008, ML115, Memory / Graphics card issue

Discussion in 'Windows Home Server' started by OriginalMitsta, Apr 29, 2009.

  1. Hi

I recently purchased a new server (HP Proliant ML115 G5) with 4Gb of memory
(2 x 2Gb DIMMS) and a PCIe graphics card. I'm having a problem in getting
Windows Server 2008 to boot (either from hard disk or the Windows setup
program from CD) whilst 4Gb is present in the machine and the graphics card.
It works fine with 2Gb present and graphics or 4gb and no graphics card

The thing is that I can get Linux / Solaris 32bit/64bit to work with all the
    kit present without a problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Hello OriginalMitsta,

I know that in Vista where also that kind of problems, but never heard about
a solution. What about if you install it with graphics and 2GB and then add
    the other 2GB?

    Best regards

  3. Meinolf,

As soon as the 2nd 2GB module is added, (with the graphics card present) the
system fails to boot. It's frustrating as hell. I've tried it with 2 graphics
cards now - a GeForce 9600GT and an ATI 2600Pro. I will be trying it with
another nVidia based card (the 8600GTS) soon (another card reported to work
with ML115 / 4Gb / W2K8 or Vista). It's just very strange that MS operating
systems just fail to work. Must be something to do with the ACPI / BIOS
    thing.

  4. Hello OriginalMitsta,

As you can see here, 2008 is only supported/tested as Foundation server(go
to the end of the list):
    http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache/458915-0-0-0-121.html

So i would call HP support about the problem.

    Best regards
