Windows remote access

i am looking for a solution to manage/view/take control of users PC's if
needed. obviously the first thing that come to mind is MS Remote Desktop
Connection, we also RDC for connecting to our servers.
1.however for some reason i cannot connect to users pc using this method!
what could be wrong.? RDC is enabled and Domain admins are given the right to
access.
2.secoundly i do not think that this tool allows me to just watch the user
without logging him/her off and logging in with administrator username, am i
correct?
3.does anybody suggest a good tool for this job, i am familiar with pc
anywhere but would rather using a free (if possible) and lightweight tool for
this!

btw this is purely for helpdesk purposes and we are running ADS on a Windows
2008 STD server. clients are running XP Pro.

If you wish to interact with a user's session then you could use a tool such
as WinVNC.

 

You can also use the built in Remote Assistance by Offering Remote
Assistance. It works very well, but takes a minute to come up initially.
Also, the user on the other end has to be there to accept your offer.

. Easiest if you use a GPO to
configure it.

Correct, but you can connect to the session with his permission and help him.
This is done via the help system but can also be initiated from the help desk
PC. I found a command to do this but do not have it to hand.

Try RAdmin from RAdmin.com.

Nice software that allows you to remote control, remote viewing, text chat,
and file transfer etc.
