I have windows live mail and windows 7 on my laptop but, when wanting to delete a group of emails, I can't find the equivelent to the Select All command on Windows XP and Outlook Express. Can anyone get me on the right track?

Try holding the Ctrl key and pressing the A key. It's Ctrl+A. That should select everything.

If that doesn't work, try clicking on the first emal. Then hold the Shift key and click on the last email. That should select all the emails inbetween.

Select all is under edit at the very top. However that will not work and neither will Ctrl + A unless you have at lease one piece of email highlighted. Simply being on the right page is not enough. I have a slightly older version of Live Mail becuuse I like it better but I assume the basics are the same.
