Greetings All :) I'm not sure if this is in the proper forum so MODS feel free to move this post. My wife's computer (XP Home) is using Windows Live. Since she had had her "Kindle", she may turn on her computer once a week. She had called me today to see if she had received a confirmation email for something she was doing at work. When I turned on her Dell 2600, then tried to open her Windows Live (not signing in), I was faced with the following error message.....

    Server Error: 0x80048820
    Server: http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
    Windows Live Mail Error:0x80048820

I tried everything such as restart, CHKDSK etc. It was the last thing I noticed that was the cause. Believe it or not, the Time & Date were not set correctly. Battery may be running down, I'll check that. I reset the time and date to the correct settings and there was no problem downloading her messages on the Windows Live email after the reset!!! Just wanted to share because, be honest guys, how many times has it always been the most overlooked thing that was the cause of PC failure??? :D How often do we ever look at our date & time settings (unless linked with a program like "Office") ?? I also wanted to share it because the error code/message gave you no direction. Be well..........

Good to hear Sarge, to be honest when I'm on the computer most of the time I look at my watch to check the time, not sure why just sort of autopilot to look at my watch rather than the bottom right of the computer screen :)

A word of warning is that if the laptop lost the proper date & time settings the CMOS battery may be on the way out, I was unlucky with a laptop having the CMOS battery die just after the warranty period ended, it was only a year old and the battery had gone (cost me £30 at local repair shop, I was less experienced with unassembling laptops at the time).
It will eventually cause the laptop problems booting into the OS (sometimes it took 5 attempts to boot into the OS), mine got gradually worse over a month, to the point where it lost 15 minutes of time for every hour the laptop was turned off.

So be best to monitor if the date & time settings are wrong when you next boot the laptop up.

LOL woody!!! I made a boo-boo too..!!! It is a Dell Dimension 4600 (wish they wouldn't put the 2 and 6 key so close together). Still easy to change the batt though!! I'll check the time & date on next reboot. Thanks for the insight ;)
