But if for example I have a folder named 3D Studio Max with all the files associated to that program in it and I move the entire folder from the C drive to the D drive then it will be saved if I were to make a recovery of C only right?

No, it will still have to be reinstalled.

OK that was a glib answer. You are doing a recovery of windows and not an image of your entire drive. Programs make changes to the system in the registry, etc. As a result programs have to be reinstalled. If they are downloaded programs you can copy the .exe file to a flashdrive or, if they are on disks you will have to use the disk again.

One thing to remember is that programs that you paid for generally require a key to activate the program. Getting the program again is easy but hopefully you have a record of the key.

Hehe, learning new words and expressions while fixing pc problems, the ultimate mental training.

My system is being recovered as we speak. I think my laptop has rebooted itself 30 times now xd From explorer loop to recovery loop, the irony.

Guess I'll be sacrificing my day off to get everything back. Luckily I still have the keys for the paid programs. Didn't have official ms office though.. So I'll be using the legit open office from now on, interesting.

'Looks up at laptop and sees the reboot screen yet again'

You're welcome StarDoch. We're happy to be of assistance. The number one rule of thumb to
remember with a computer is: Don't fix it if it isn't broken."

Just a suggestion. Having learned from experience, I now have a 500GB stand alone hard drive and use entire backup on a weekly bases. Best money I've spent cost was about $80.00.

Thanks
