The sooner, the better. You don't want to ruin all of your hardware.

    Hi

This goes out to Rich-M I asked you to clarify what you meant in post #54 in post #56 because I was not sure how to take what you had written but since you have failed to clarify to me I can only assume you meant this negatively and therefore I now ask that you no longer interact with myself during anything I may post of course as this is a public forum I cannot stop you from doing so but I will have no further interaction with you at all.

Anyone else reading this many apologies as apart from the above, I have received first class advice and hope many more to come.

    Regards

    Hi

I have just received my replacement motherboard albatron p4m800/775 exactly the same as the one in my current system so my question is if I install this in my system will it affect my current Xp install .

I was just going to test this to see if it is working as it should before installing Windows 7.

    Regards

It shouldn't have any effect on your install if the mobo is identical to the original.

I need to stress again the probability that your PSU is the underlying cause of your problems.

Hi. We know that the PSU needs changing so try and take some of the load off it for now.
Disconnect any extra hard drives, printers whatever and only have the keyboard and mouse.
Remove the Graphics card as that is a power sucker and hook the monitor cable up to onboard Graphics.
    See if any difference.

    Hi JokersWild,

Is the new mobo actually "new" or did they send you a refurbished one?

If it's refurbished, that could be the problem.

    Hi Dougie

yeah seems i did get further with the boot unplugging my grahics card just to the screen that said windows had not been shut down correctly and it froze so seems the power is more of an issue with this MOBO. but most of the time it just freezes and even my monitor not coming on at times.

    Hi Cindy

    it is a refurbished one

I would suggest at this point, (although it's entirely up to you) that you wait until you are able to replace your power supply.

It's failing pretty miserably and because your voltages are incorrect, you run the real risk of damaging your other hardware components.

    +3.3V 3.328 V
    +5V 5.027 V
    +12V 9.856 V
    -12V (6.528) V
    -5V (7.680) V
    +5V HIGH THRESHOLD 4.704 V

I wouldn't know how to any more clearly Joker. Those numbers you posted are even worse than I thought they would be. The clock is ticking and soon nothing you own for a pc will run at all if you keep on as you are.
It never ceases to amaze me I see people spend $3-400.00 for a video card without even blinking and then when you tell them they need to spend about $75 to get a decent psu, they need oxygen.

I think what he said Rich, was he didn't have the money right now for a PSU.

Of course they don't but others have no other way of saying they have other priorities and I said fine in one of the posts, just stop fiddling with it until you can afford a new quality psu because every little thing you are trying is hurting all the other components so if you don't have money for a good quality psu, I can just bet then you surely don't have enough to replace the cpu, motherboard and hard drive right now either and that is the chance you are taking fiddling with this unit now.

Just a thought, but sites like gumtree quite often list shops that quite often sell refurbished tower units, second hand PC's that cost as much as a cheap PSU. as a system they are quite basic as a source of spare parts they can be quite economic.

    Hi

Thanks Match for that I forgot about those places you do get in a pattern of shopping and for me it is amazon I go there before and often not even give most other places a second thought but I think at least for now I am at a point of no return as it is not what I am going to spend it is what I have already spent I have gone to far to abandon this now or at least that is my thoughts on it.

I may actually be able to get a new PSU in a couple of weeks just wanted a check on if this is suitable I know the maker is fine just if it will be ok in my system.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=455346027&pf_rd_i=468294

If anyone has any other suggestions on a PSU feel free to post them.

    Regards
