I need to get a new hard drive for my computer and i will have to reinstall windows 7. I know the disk i have is locked to my computer. Technically it is the same computer but different hard drive. is the windows 7 disk locked to the motherboard or the hard drive so i know if i need a new disk or not before i pick it up from the shop.

Hi and welcome to CHF Victor.
If the disk you mention is either a disk that came with the computer or a disk you created when you first got the computer, you are correct that it will only work on that computer. If you change the hard drive, it should work OK as it is tied to the motherboard, not the hard drive.

If you do not know, you can download a iso file onto a disc (dvd/usb), burn it using microsoft media windows 7 tool, get your windows key by using jellybean keyfinder, & then you can re-install it like that.
