windows 2008 enter code

Discussion in 'Windows Home Server' started by Bonno Bloksma, May 28, 2009.

  1. Hi,

So there no dumb questions right? ;-)

I have installed a Windows 2008 Enterprise server, I have a license code to
enter but..... Where do I enter the code? I cannot find any place for it?

    Bonno

  2. Hello Bonno,

It will start to prompt you soon. But you can enter the code immediately
by calling the UI: slui (from the Run box)

Ok, started slui but I can only click on "Activate Windows online now"
Nowhere can I enter my code.

When I do click on "Activate..." I get error 0x8007232B, DNS name does not
    exist.
Strange, as I have a working internet connection on that box.

  5. Hello Bonno,

Open system properties page, scroll down to Windows activation and click
    "change product key".

I do not understand this at all.

However, this does get me somewhere. It seems I need to enter my MAK code
    via the command
    slmgr -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

  7. Hello Bonno,

Sorry, i don't know why i answered in french...I was tired i guess!

    My previous message was:

From the error message you gave, i guess you have a version volume.

If it's the case, you need a KMS on your network. Your server will activate
against your KMS, which will in turn contact MS Servers (once)

  8. Hi,

I don't have a KMS, but as I wrote, your reference to the kb article did
    help me. I needed the
    slmgr -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
    command.

    > Sorry, i don't know why i answered in french...I was tired i guess!

Doesn't matter, it's just that my french isn't that good anymore. ;-)
