Windows 2003 SP2 Major Issues

Discussion in 'Windows Home Server' started by Simon Glencross, Sep 3, 2009.

  1. I am about to place a paid support request to Microsoft but thought I would
    try here one last time!

    Windows 2003 Standard
    Exchange 2003
    Dell Poweredge 2600 Server

I have made a number of attempts to load service pack 2 without success.

The service Pack install process goes through and states it has installed
    successfully and requires a restart.

I restart the server and then the screen hangs on Preparing network
    connections for over an hour.

I then have to restart in safe mode. I have added in to the registry entries
    disabling the new Chimney features

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters]
    "EnableTCPChimney"=dword:00000000
    "EnableTCPA"=dword:00000000
    "EnableRSS"=dword:00000000

I then restarted this also made no difference.

I loaded prior to the update the latest drivers for the installed Intel nic
1000 xt again this has made no difference either.

I have checked the internet for other suggestion but they all seem to point
to disabling the new chimney settings.

In the error log the following is reported...

Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server. The server is:
    {5A5AA0AA-1DEB-4683-96B0-B43301E83971}
    The user is Unavailable/Unavailable, SID=S-1-5-7.

Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server. The server is:

    The user is Unavailable/Unavailable, SID=S-1-5-7.

    Microsoft ® Windows ® 5.02. 3790 Service Pack 2 Multiprocessor Free.

The IPSec Driver is starting in Bypass mode. No IPSec security is being
applied while this computer starts up. IPSec policies, if they have been
assigned, will be applied to this computer after the IPSec services start.

Intel® PRO/1000 XT Network Connection Link has been established: 1000Mbps.

The Exchange IFS driver loaded successfully.

The description for Event ID ( 10026 ) in Source ( DCOM ) cannot be found.
The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be
able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and
Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 86400,
    SuppressDuplicateDuration, Software\Microsoft\Ole\EventLog.

The server service was unable to recreate the share Simon$ because the
directory Y:\Computer no longer exists. Please run "net share Simon$
/delete" to delete the share, or recreate the directory Y:\Computer.

The primary Domain Controller for this domain could not be located.

The description for Event ID ( 3 ) in Source ( AeLookupSvc ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be
able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and
Support for details. The following information is part of the event: .

The Security System detected an authentication error for the server
ldap/LAKESIDESERVER. The failure code from authentication protocol Kerberos
was "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon
    request.
    (0xc000005e)".

The browser has forced an election on network
    \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{E74EB762-F7D5-41D2-8EFA-DB522397B942} because a Windows
Server (or domain master) browser is started.

DFS has finished building all namespaces.

The request for a new account-identifier pool failed. The operation will
be retried until the request succeeds. The error is
" The requested FSMO operation failed. The current FSMO holder could not be
    contacted.
    "

The IPSec driver has entered Secure mode. IPSec policies, if they have been
configured, are now being applied to this computer.

The time provider NtpClient was unable to find a domain controller to use as
a time source. NtpClient will try again in 15 minutes.

Unable to bind to the underlying transport for 0.0.0.0:25. The IP
Listen-Only list may contain a reference to an interface which may not exist
on this machine. The data field contains the error number.

Cannot register the URL prefix 'http://*:25/' for site '100'. The site has
been deactivated. The data field contains the error number.

The DHCP service failed to see a directory server for authorization.

The Network Load Balancing service failed to start due to the following
    error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it
has no enabled devices associated with it.

The Kerberos Key Distribution Center service hung on starting.

The DHCP service failed to see a directory server for authorization.

The Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks service depends on the Microsoft Exchange
System Attendant service which failed to start because of the following
    error:
    The operation completed successfully.

The Microsoft Exchange Event service depends on the Microsoft Exchange
Information Store service which failed to start because of the following
    error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.

The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service depends on the Microsoft
Exchange System Attendant service which failed to start because of the
    following error:
    The operation completed successfully.
This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain
controller in domain LAKESIDEHOTEL due to the following:
There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is
connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your
    domain administrator.

    ADDITIONAL INFO
If this computer is a domain controller for the specified domain, it sets up
the secure session to the primary domain controller emulator in the
specified domain. Otherwise, this computer sets up the secure session to any
domain controller in the specified domain.

Unable to bind to the underlying transport for 0.0.0.0:25. The IP
Listen-Only list may contain a reference to an interface which may not exist
on this machine. The data field contains the error number.

Dynamic registration or deletion of one or more DNS records associated with
DNS domain 'lakesidehotel.co.uk.' failed. These records are used by other
computers to locate this server as a domain controller (if the specified
domain is an Active Directory domain) or as an LDAP server (if the specified
    domain is an application partition).

    Possible causes of failure include:
    - TCP/IP properties of the network connections of this computer contain
wrong IP address(es) of the preferred and alternate DNS servers
    - Specified preferred and alternate DNS servers are not running
    - DNS server(s) primary for the records to be registered is not running
    - Preferred or alternate DNS servers are configured with wrong root hints
    - Parent DNS zone contains incorrect delegation to the child zone
authoritative for the DNS records that failed registration

    USER ACTION
Fix possible misconfiguration(s) specified above and initiate registration
or deletion of the DNS records by running 'nltest.exe /dsregdns' from the
command prompt or by restarting Net Logon service. Nltest.exe is available
in the Microsoft Windows Server Resource Kit CD.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

  2. For what its worth, a search on "5A5AA0AA-1DEB-4683-96B0-B43301E83971"
indicates that this is associated to an HP print driver. The program it is
associated to is a flakey bugger named HPBPRO.EXE. Not sure what printer
drivers you have installed, but I would start there as you might not have
too many HP printer monitor type programs installed on said server.

    Is that an unedited IPCONFIG?

Is this SBS? Is it a DC?

    Anthony,
