I have a 1 year old Acer and the wifi is unable to connect unless I'm 5 meters away from the router. I can see full signals but it is unable to connect.

    This is the router:http://telus.com/content/help/common/pdf/actiontec_windows.pdf
What do you mean by ethernet cable? I have to plug this device right into the router? But that's within 5 meters

What Dalo is asking is whether or not you can connect to the internet by using an ethernet cable directly from the router to the computer.

Could you go to Start > Type in Search devmgmt.msc (press enter).

This will load Device Manager up, could you then go to Network Adapters and confirm which wireless card you have, Manufacturer and Model.
Also if you could right click on the wireless card and select Properties and tell us the driver version number and driver date.

You might need a driver update, if you haven't done one already.

Ok if you could download the latest network driver from here (select the 'Click for download' button with a green background and blue border) - http://www.atheros.c...set=30&system=6

There isn't an installer so just extract the zip folder, go back to Device Manager like above, right click on the Wireless adapter and select Update Driver software, then select the option to 'Browse my computer for driver software' and navigate the drop down to the extracted driver folder.
It should then install the latest drivers, restart the PC if it asks and then try your network signal strength again.
