When I shut down

    Tried to sort it myself time to ask for help.
    Of late when I go to shutdown bottom left screen I get a shield which I know is pointing out I have updates (installs updates then shuts down computer).
    This happens every time I go to shutdownThanks

    Hi Bob. What have you done so far to fix what you see as an issue?:)

    Why you keep getting this is because Windows can't install this update for whatever reason.
    Find the update causing this problem and hide the update.
    Then all should be back to normal shut down.

    Have not done anything Doug I was living with it.
    It is 5 updates every time will look into it now you told me.

    When you view the five updates that have been trying to install (under status) does it say FAILED next to each of them? If so, right click each one and select view details. Next to Error Details and the Code
    you should be able to click "Get help with this error". That should give us some insight as to why the
    update has failed.

    According to your description you receive the following error message 80004005 when performing the updates from Windows Update.

    In that case I suggest you perform the steps below:

    Click the Start menu and type cmd.


    Click with right-click cmd and select "Run as administrator".


    Inside the Command Prompt, type the following commands:


    net stop bits


    net stop wuauserv


    net stop cryptsvc


    net stop TrustedInstaller



    Access the folder C: \ Windows \ SoftwareDistribution and rename to SoftwareDistribution.old


    In the Command Prompt, type the commands again:


    net start bits


    net start wuauserv


    net start cryptsvc


    net start TrustedInstaller



    Make sure that updates are performed.


    Run the tool to reset Windows Update components:

    If it persists, continue with the steps below:


    Start downloading the tool:


    Preparation Tool Windows Update.

    http://support.microsoft.com/





    Perform updates.

    I consider this issue solved as we haven't had any feed back in nearly a week.
    Why do you ask for help, Bob if you don't intend to keep us updated promptly?
    We have to go back and keep reading the thread.
    That's not fair on the techies trying to resolve your issue.

    Sorry about that Dougie and the techies. I am still getting no where and thats with trying to solve the problem with out continually bothering you all.
    The latest information I have found is that I dont have sp1 installed for windows 7 I also cant work out how to install sp1.

    Windows7 SPI is included in your Windows updates, BOB.
    Here's how to install from Windows Update.

    1. Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet.

    2. Click the Start button [​IMG], click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.
    3. In the left pane, click Check for updates.

    4. If any important updates are found, click the link to view available updates. In the list of updates, select Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB976932), and then click OK.

    5. Click Install updates. [​IMG] If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    6. Follow the instructions on your screen.

    7. After the installation is complete, log on to your computer at the Windows logon prompt. You might see a notification indicating whether the update was successful.

    8. If you disabled your antivirus software, enable it again.
