Everyone is entitled to handle situations their own way. And, this thief did receive charges and jail time. It seemed he was wanted for a string of vehicle break-ins during the previous months with totals exceeding $10,000.00 USD between what he stole and the damage he did to the vehicles. I am not nor ever have been the type of person to sit back and watch it happen. Maybe if someone before me had taken the initive, MY car wouldn't have been broken into where over $1000.00 dollars of damage was done. And what makes you think I wasn't armed? You don't have to have a weapon to be "armed"!! This happened back in the early 1990's so taking a picture or video was not an option. Like I said, everyone is entitled to handle things their own way, it's just not my way to sit back and let the next person worry about it!

You did what you thought was best at the time, Sarge
Personally I would rather be a Live Coward than a Dead Hero.
Worldly goods are not worth risking your life over.
    Each to their own.

Sarge, I too understand and admire you for your courage.

For so many of us, we've been taught to be passive and when we know our limitation, I heartily agree with you, Doug - better alive than dead. Personally, I've always depended on having long legs and being able to fly like the wind. Now that those days are over ... hmmm.
