A few days ago, my computer locked up and was unable to reboot, so i ended up doing a system restore, and that is when all these problems started. I don't know what I was doing when it locked up, i think playing a game, but it is one that has been on my system for a long time, and has never had any issues. But now I have had to grant admin permissions to almost every program i use individually. My video converters started me that they did not have permission to open or save files. Itunes wouldn't open because it said it didn't have permission to open its own library. My browsers automatically sign me out of every website, even when i check the box to stay logged in. I get errors about access being denied to files and folders that have never needed any special permissions. What happened here? And how can i get it back to normal? It's a bit cumbersome to do anything on my pc like this.

    Hi and welcome to CHF.
Can you tell us the make and model of your computer please. (Helps us find relevant information if needed)

Have you tried another system restore, but to a different restore point, one a little earlier than the one that seems to have got you into trouble?

Try that first, but if still the same, it may be malware has got onto your system, but we will deal with that later if that seems to be the case.

    Nev.

I originally tried three different restore points, with no difference. Also my dropbox will not start because of a registry error, my google music manager will not connect, and microsoft word will not save files

Have you by any chance, been using a registry cleaner or any "computer optimizer" software?

I have not. I've heard those can cause more damage than good.
