Just had a very enjoyable weekend break at Warner's Thorseby hall historic house. The entertainment was very good, including a big band concert, and the food was superb. The highlight for me however was walking for over an hour carrying a barn owl, an absolutely gorgeous young bird only fifteen weeks old. I have attached a link showing a few photo's. The extremely good looking young man with the barn owl is of course me, accompanied by 'Er indoors in the red coat. The other shots are of other birds of prey with other walkers.

We always have a good time at one of their historic houses or country hotels. No one under 18, so no screaming kids, first class entertainment, and superb food. All of the birds were beautiful, but I chose the barn owl because it was so light. I felt really privileged to be so close to such a beautiful creature. When I get a chance I will post pictures of the great oak in Sherwood Forest. It is estimated to be at least 1150 years old.

Great photos andsome and thanks for sharing. I love owls and all sorts of raptors. I am not sure if you have Great Greys over there in the UK but we have lots of them around here and of course barn owls. Good job.

    Cheers: Rich :jump:

Thanks for posting that, what a magnificent creature. We have a animal shelter, not far from here, that takes in injured birds. I support it by taking bird feed and modest cash donations. I go there often to see what sort of birds they have and they usually have lots of owls. The last time I went there, they had a great grey that had a wounded wing. I was amazed by it.

    Thanks for sharing. Rich

From around 1969 onwards till around 1977 I used to be a keen caver and potholler, descending to the depths of various parts of the UK in caves and potholes. During that time I met up with this guy who was a member of the Red Rose caving club. He found, and then reared from an abandoned chick, this gorgeous looking guy sat on his shoulder.

I took the picture using one of those cheapo film camera's that were around during that time, and though the picture had faded loosing some colour, it was scanned in to show you this.

It would stay there, or if it wanted, have a fly round, but then come back to his shoulder. I did have it on my wrist for a short time as well, a really friendly bird that would eat from your hand.
