Who is the best? It seems to me that all of these, over about the past 4 years have been excellent. However, it does seem that Webroot is always there at the top and has very high detection rates, and a low footprint running wise. Uses the Previx engine. Emsisoft and trend also have very high detection rates. Emsisoft thas some false positives, which isn't always a bad thing. Trend very high detection rates possibly the best but has too much CPU overhead.

I'm been installing Emsisoft AntiMalware for over a year now. It's working quite well. I had seen some false positives early on, but haven't seen one in months.

Of all the ones mentioned only Webroot and Emsisoft do all Malware. I have been also repping Emsisoft for over a year and have around 75 licenses sold.
Until today none of the users I sold this too had any infections but I finally found one who did today but those are rather good odds. In my group I have all your users covered.
The only issue I have with Webroot is it is primarily an Antivirus whereas Emsisoft is primarily AntiMalware meaning it has generally a better rate of success since today's infections are seldom virus anymore. The Malware component of Webroot is Spysweeper which was one of the early success stories against Malware but not the best by today's standards.

If you want ease of use, no false positives then you can't go past ESET.
Has one of the highest detection rates.
You are selling Emsisoft, Rich. That is not a unbiased recommendation.

Actually it is unbiased because if I didn't believe in it so much I would not be selling it and the fact I have a year without any infected users is a record for my business even though it got broken today. Eset is an excellent product but I cannot say it is better than Emsisoft because it is actually using its heuristics to detect unnatural behavior and it does well with it but the baes program
is not really detecting known Malware and using that alone would not be as effective as Emsisoft or Webroot for that matter. Eset does have an AntiMalware Suite but it tests I ran a few years ago I found that Nod32 Antivirus was actually more effective controlling Malware than the Smart Suite.Using Nod32 with Malwarebytes Pro would constitute somewhat equal protection and it is the old way I used to sell those programs.

It seems NOD32 has been the most consistent, and I have used it as well. The AV's I have used are NoD32, Trend, Avast, AVG, F-Secure, and of course MSE on Windows XP/7. Currently I am only using Windows Defender along with Malware Bytes. Seems ok but I feel my protection could be better, although I am an experienced user maybe I will go back to NOD32. Never tried Emsisoft though maybe give that one a shot since Tony recommends it.

"since Tony recommends it." Hey what am I "chopped liver?"
    • :lg_rofl:
As I believe I said before I have over 100 licenses sold over the last year and up until last week no infections whatsoever. Prior to that I was selling Nod32 with Mbam Pro and I had plenty of infected pcs that way. T think the reason being using Nod32 to stop Malware is actually utilizing the biggest strength of the product but not actually what Nod32 was designed for. Emsisoft was designed through and through to prevent Malware and virus protection takes a back seat to Malware defenses which makes it more on target for today's threats.

Tony is an experienced user as well, and I don't think I had ever seen him specifically mention his security although he may have. I would trust his recommendations just like most of the very experienced staff here. Time to try something new I think.

I can't believe I forgot to mention I used Panda but it was a long time ago when they were top rated. Probably more than 7 years ago. I think the fact that Emsisoft concentrates on the "web threat" aspect is good because most infections are started via the web through browsers, browser configuration, java, compromised sites, badly configured base operating security (admin). Seems like Emsisoft is on the bleeding edge of modern security protection.

Webroot's Spy Sweeper was a fantastic product and used it for years around 2004-2007. I used because it executes deeper scans and root out and quarantine even the trickiest programs. And it was user friendly. When Spy Sweeper with AntiVirus came out. It seems to me that it was not effective as before.

I agree Kenny and they came out with Spy Sweeper Antivirus just as the original product had moved into obscurity and the fact the AV was Sophos
legitimized the product. Prior to this time Sophos and Norman were primarily business AV Solutions, and very reliable ones. But again I look at that product as
somewhat successful but backwards in it outlook.

I just use Windows 10 Windows Defender with free Malwarebytes, Super Anti-Spyware (for the tracking cookies removal) and do ADW scans once in a while as well as ESET online scanner. Haven't had a virus in many years or malware.

Exactly what I use and also the same results as you have.
You can rave on about paid products but the truth is you don't need them.
    It's called scaremongering.:)
If I ever get a serious Virus or Malware I will deal with it, but tired of waiting for a challenge.

Dougie while that is really quite true for an experienced user, it is not true for the general public
so we need to be careful with out advice to state it that way.

It doesn't matter what protection an inexperienced user on the PC and web has as they will get infected irregardless.

I do know that what we recommend to the general public and what we may use is different. Though, for representations sake and to know a product instead of just recommending -- once in a blue moon I do run a paid product. I have been doing the same as Amd_Man for a long time actually and I also alternate with online scans.
