    Lets break this down:

I suspect that you will have no problem with the printer. Plug it in and W7 will detect it and install the drivers. Now if it comes with a bunch of software you may need to go and find a W7 version. That should not keep you from printing.

As for the camera it is almost the same thing. You may want to understand how a computer sees a camera. To the computer the camera is just another drive that contains data. If you do not have special software that you use you can just download the pictures to any folder etc. If you are using Kodak software to organize your photos because it came with the camera you may need to either find a newer version or use something else. I have a Panasonic digital but never really liked their software so I don't use it.

My suggestion is to get the W7 computer and don't allow it to intimidate you. I went from XP to 7 and it was culture shock for a few days until I got it figured out (sort of) it is far easier when you are used to Vista.

One thing to remember is that we are always here to help you through it and there are no silly questions. We thrive on helping folks who are new to any topic or area.

Thanks for the info and words of encouragement.

Just make sure you let us know how you are making out. I never liked Vista and refused to have it but I think Windows7 is great. Couple that with a brand new machine and there are good times ahead for you (at least as far as computing is concerned :snckr: )

One thing I would appreciate is that, if you are really happy with how things are going for you here at CHF you let people know on COF. Every time I mention it I feel like I am shilling for "business." :)

(By the way the last time you mentioned us you said CFF. I really don't know what that is but apparently based on some posts it is a real place. :()

    Hi BCB.
When I said CFF it was a typo. I was a member of CFF(computerfunforum) for a very short time too much to keep up with.
I am contented at COF and the over50's group.Plus this forum and log 'n' rock.

I was thinking Ron plugged CHF when you joined COF.
But I will go back to that thread I started in asking about what computer to buy and mention the help I got here.

    Have a good day.

I am looking at all of this also, as some day I to will be needing to purchase a new computer. I've made up my mind already that I will stick with a desktop. The time to purchase has not yet arrived, but when it does I want to be armed with the knowledge I'll need to make the best purchase I can in the price range I can afford.

I currently have a HP Pavilion a1006n and have increased the RAM from 512MB to 1.5GB, this is the most my mother board will take. I also had a new mother board installed, and I have the WindowsXP Home disk. I will stick with XP till they stop support in 2014.

HP will be looked at when the time for a new computer comes along with those indicated in these posts.

I also am a member at CFF and they have a couple of folk who appear to know what they are talking about. I also am not reluctant to recommend this site as you also appear to know what you are talking about.

    Thanks
    Wildman
