I have a no of servers with Symantec Backup Exec and System Recovery Option
    installed.
Both of these appear to have the option to choose the VSS service i.e either
    SYmantec or MS providers.
I have recently installed Diskeeper Server2008 and the Application log is
filled with errors from the VSS and DK services. It appears that DK is
picking the Symantec provider (system default?) as that is the guid in the
event log entry and that cannot enumerate the VSS status of the disk DK is
    defragging.
Vssadmin list writers shows everything is OK and NTbackup system state
recovery backups using VSS work fine.

One thing that has helped me with VSS problems on 3rd party backup solutions
is to install KB940349-v3, which is the current VSS hotfix rollup, which
should get installed by AU. KB934016 is COM+ rollup 12, which is not public.
We use Tivoli Storage Manager and IBM considers even the non-public rollup
    as a requirement.
