Vista WiFi connection in Germany

    Hi,

I have a Vista Ultimate laptop which I used for work in the US. Now I
live in Germany. During my initial stay at the hotels, I used the hotel
wireless connection and Vista connected to the Internet fine. Now I
live in an apartment and got the DSL service from T-Mobile (Deutsche
Telekom) and here is the problem.

The DSL phone works fine. My Vista will not connect to the DSL router
    (Speedport 303V).

    1. Every attempt to use the browser (Firefox or IE) to connect to the
router’s IP address returns the following error message:

    ____________
    Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please
    try again.
    ____________

    2. None of the external web sites can be accessed

    3. The network configuration information from the Control Panel says I
am connected to the Internet and the only application working is Skype.

    4. My wife has an Apple laptop. She could connect to the router and the
Internet from the beginning of this DSL setup.

One thing I did change in the Wireless card settings was the DNS
servers. Soon after I added DNS servers from OpenDNS, and I have access
to the Internet. I am still not able to connect to my DSL router. I
disabled IPV6 for the interfaces and tried to use wired and WiFi access
to the router and Vista will not access the router.

Every other place I have used WiFi connection, DSL or Cable broadband, I
had no problem. This is the first time I am experiencing this. Can
someone explain why I cannot access the DSL modem on Vista?

Thank you in advance for any help.

I can't help with your question but -

Why not try Network and Internet forum. Might get a better response.
    Also please don't double\triple post.

This is really a 'long shot', but I had some similar issues at one time
and somehow my AVG caused the problem. I removed AVG and installed
AVAST and all is well now. IF you are using AVG, just try removing as a
    test and see what happens.

  4. Hi Neil,
I'm here in Germany too. Are you set up with T-Mobile or Deutsche Telekom?
If you are set up with T-Mobile (that is a cellular service provider); they
may have different connections in order to get online with them. If you are
signed up with the Telekom; then you will have to access the router and
maybe give assign yourself your own IP number for your laptop. Also; leave
your W-Lan card with the "normal Settings" and make sure that your DNS is
set on automatic at first. Also; does your computer run when you are plugged
in with LAN or is it just an W-Lan issue? The speedport 303V is also a
somewhat older router and you may have to get by a hardware firewall. I
think your best bet would be to dive into your pocket and pick up the
Speedport 501v (which is still older but not as old as the 303) or the 701V
which is the newer of the 3. The 701V also has WEPII security and you simply
log into vista with the security identification numbers that are on the back
of the router. Super secure and super fast. If that doesn't work; then you
will have to call the Telekom and get someone to help you out online; but
remember that the service charge rates here on German technical assistance
lines cost sometimes more than 14 cents A MINUTE and you could be on the
phone for over an hour before the technician talks you through the works. (I
had the problem before I had vista with Xp and a much older router too; and
don't forget that the German technicians use the German Vista or XP and may
not know the technical terms that you may use in English. It is an uphill
battle but is usually won. The telekom is known to sometimes be slow with
the technical service online; but they KNOW their stuff. Good luck in
    hooking up.
