user account for ftp task

    Hi,

I have a scheduled task in windows 2008 that ftps a file from one server to
another. I was prompted for a username to run the task under. For testing
purposes I used my account but that won't work long term. So should I use a
system account (NETWORK SERVICE for example) or should I create a user for
this task. If I create a user what rights would they need?

    Thanks,
    Jack

  2. Hello Jack

It might be a good idea to create a service accounts with password never
expires and give the necessary rights that is required for task to run,, I
used system with blank password in my environment schedule tasks

I created a user and granted it the login locally and login as a batch file
rights. Then I had to grant the user read permission on C:\ and the file I
want copied. I will find out if it worked tomorrow morning. It seems to me
I don't want this user to actually login. Why does the task scheduler
insist on being able to login locally? Why not logon as a service?

    Thanks,
    Jack

  4. Hello Jack,

I am not sure what you meant, but if you need it to run only as a service
then you need to use buitin service accounts...

When I try I get: An error has occurred for task xyz. Error message: The
specified account name is not valid.

I tried using the SYSTEM account. The server is windows 2008 64bit.

    Thanks,

  6. It seems you may have to create a seperate account for this task.
