    Hi:

Is there a way to turn off UAC and not have Windows Security Protection
System display it in the taskbar?

    Thanks,

    ColTom2

    Yup.

Got to Control Panel (Classic view), Security Center.

Look on the left, choose "Change the way..."

    Hi:

Thanks for all the info on how to turn of UAC and not have it displayed in
    the Taskbar.

I have one other comment in regards to this procedure and that is this
considered a normal process within Vista? I know the consequences of turning
off the Security Alert, but is this a procedure that most Vista users do
nowadays do to stop the annoyance of the pop up screen?

As you can see I am not an experienced Vista user.

    Thanks,

    ColTom2

Many of us do, but the "informed" nannies tell us not to do it.

I've been online since '91 without an issue. Suddenly UAC is forced
on me for my own good. 30 minutes after I installed Vista, I turned
it off - that was a couple years ago.

    Hi Brink:

I am not a big Norton fan anymore so I went with your procedure to just
disable the UAC rather than all Security Warning Notices. This seems to be
the most prudent and reasonable action to take.

    Thanks for all your help!

    Tom,

That is the usual way folks turn off UAC, but you might consider using
the Norton UAC Tool instead. This way you can leave UAC turned on and
add UAC program exceptions to not receive UAC notices for those
    programs.

If you didn't want to use the Norton UAC Tool, then you could also
disable the specific UAC Security Warning notice instead of all of them.
