    I couldn't help but smile when I read, "The commander then delivered a keg of wine...". If all ships had to give away freebies surely Royalty must have had well-stocked wine cellars :).

    Which Queen was it that, while apparently a lovely lady, excelled in 'collecting things' - as in, go for Tea and admire something and fully expect it to be given to her by her host/hostess? Guess people, as soon as they knew she was going to visit, started hiding their favourite and most valuable items - and I remember laughing when reading this as I had a mental vision of people with a look of panic on their faces, ordering their staff to quick, quick hide things!!
