    Hi Patsy.
That computer looks OK to me and would suit your Hubbies needs.
It's the luck of the draw.
No good saying this or that may fail as it can happen to near new computers.
I have had Hard drives fail in one week and had them last 6 yrs constant use.
I think it is good value for money.

I was comparing what you can get here for that money.
You are right Cindy when I checked out the link.

Yeah Dougie. I remember we have already done comparisons on other things.

It never ceases to amaze me with the huge price differences between our two countries.

It is just as bad here in the UK, regardless of the current US Dollar to UK pound, that $150-00 would translate to around the same figure and would expect a refurbished computer of that standard to be £150-00 here.
If the refurbishment included the installation of a new hard drive, and possibly new but cheap power supply, it could cost even more.
So, back to topic and try to remember the continental differences, perhaps Patszy may be better off looking elsewhere at a possibly newer second hand machine if a good one is available.

A newer one would definitely be a better idea.

    Thank you both!.
He uses his computer very little, has some pictures on it, but does not use it for music or games....except Solitaire games. He does a bit on the Internet and a bit of email, and reads some.
I checked and my Windows 7 has 3GB. It is super super fast. (So MUCH better than my NEW Windows 8!!!)
    How about this one....
    107c3d62386a44b07377d52cfd45b45c.jpg

Would Windows 7 Professional be much different? I am the one who will have to know what to do with it.
Is this one a better processor??? Don't need a monitor.
I, too, am concerned about how much use either has had, but I am ready to do something with April just around the corner and he has XP. He does do some banking etc. so I want to be safe, or course.

How do I know if a machine is a newer one? I am not that familiar with what is new....

Pentium 4 cpus are the pits these days and really not a good idea for today's computing needs even if somewhat limited as you suggest. I liked your Sony deal last posted and think the All-in-One makes a lot of sense
as it saves space and combines a lot of components and I think the makers have a handle on these today they didn't have a few years ago. Don't ask anyone these days to not at least have a dual core processor. I didn't like your Dell because while the Vision cpus have come a long way 1.5 ghz is just too slow for today's needs and there are faster ones at the same price.

Better processor and ram...you will see no difference for what you do between Pro and Home Premium as it has more to do with more than 5 networked computers anyway and the backup software is image making vs file and data backup. I think the Pro version you may have to add the basic games to like solitaire etc as they were left out of pro version but are available to addin though I may be wrong as that may be Windows 8 I am thinking of.

Unfortunately you can't as this is one of the games retailers play that's why buying the newest hardware you can afford is the best assurance of getting a new pc vs some left over like Walmart sells.
I have been in the business over 15 years and the computers I see in people's homes they tell me they bought 2 years ago and I see 6 year old hardware in them....that's why you have to buy from reputable people as the only bargains I see at the brick and mortars are really old stuff at slightly reduced from list prices.

Can you give us a price point and let us suggest some to you? I have a much better feeling about what to buy but need to know your maximum and minimum prices, I know what you need as you have explained what your husband uses a pc for.

I checked out the Amazon site and that one has XP on it! That is what I am trying to get away from.

We have three computers on our home network. I think I got the Solitaire games and added them on his computer.

Is the above Dell 755 DT an old machine???

My Windows 8 All In One is an HP and I don't particularly like it. Probably just because it is 8...8.1 though.

Really never thought I would buy a computer from Walmart, but at this age, we don't want to shop around. I do most of my shopping on the Internet these days. Mostly at Amazon.

Look I am not thrilled with the cpu on the Walmart one, but its not old. The best site for deals on the right thing these days I have found to be Tiger Direct. Nothing wrong with Amazon but I think Tiger is sharper at price and line. I'll be right back to you.

Hi, just saw the above and will check it out.
    Saw this one at Staples:

....Did check out Tiger Direct. They look good but I don't want 8 and I don't want to pay that much for something that he does not use very much....and he is going to be 86 soon....one never knows!!!

I would rather see a Core 2 Duo cpu than any Pentium throwback processor take the one at Staples it is old hardware but that was good hardware at least.
The 3rd one I gave you at Tiger Direct was Windows 7 and the hardware is old but actually again quite a good unit. I don't know if you are aware of this but Lenovo is the Chinese company that continues the IBM tradition computer lines and today is the largest manufacturer of computers in the world. Their computers are excellent quality as IBM was.
