    My laptop has a very unstable connection and I am completely stumped. I've monitored the ping and it is usually around 32-50, but it constantly spikes to 3k+ for roughly 10 seconds, it also disconnects at random intervals. I've tried updating the networking drivers, disabling firewalls and changes the preferences.

    Nothing has helped the problem, I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos running Windows 7.

    Some questions to get a bit of detail first;

    What is the specific model number of the laptop (should be a stick on bottom on laptop)? As they can have either Broadcom or Intel network cards in them.

    What network driver version number was it?

    What make/model is your Router?

    Where are you sat on the laptop compared to the position of your router? Distance away roughly like 10ft or something.

    And to get further information could you download and install inSSIDer - http://www.metageek....port/downloads/

    Then take a screenshot of it running (you can blank out the SSID names) so we get an idea of the signal the laptop is picking up and what other routers may cause interference based on wireless channels used.

    Some thoughts I had while looking up the laptop is that it is a metal casing correct? Is that all over the laptop including the screen (Wifi aerials are in the screen)?

    This metal casing in itself can be a problem because wireless signals do not travel as well through metal, you might have read about the Asus Transformer Prime having terrible Wifi and GPS issues because of the metal case.

    But there might be ways to improve the signal depending on the information above.
