Uninstalling windows 7 reinstalling windows xp

Ok we I'm having a lot of trouble of of windows 7 I can't reset it bc my computer came with it on it and I lost the restore disk. But I do have a copy of windows xp that I own. I want to uninstall windows 7 and install windows xp on my laptop. I tried putting my windows xp disc and restart computer and boot from disc. Well it won't load the disc it says it has failed. It says: Check your hard disc, Check for spyware, malware. Is there any other safe way to do this? Because this option sure isn't working.

No the cd is clean not a scratch on it and its an original. I've used it before and it work. But here's the scoop. I bought this computer right when windows 7 came out like dead one the date. Being that said, it has windows vista on it from the manufactuer. And it came with windows 7 on same lame disks that u had to run to upgrade from vista to windows 7. The discs were just upgrade discs not the actual windows 7 Microsoft version. Maybe that's why I'm having trouble. I finally got the system to reset back to factory settings so now I have vista on here again. I might just stay with vista if It don't give me no problems.
