Good afternoon, Ive recently decided to build my first computer.

Ive got the whole rig up and running but ive come to a frusterating standstill in regards to the installation of Windows on this brand new computer.

This may belong in the hardware section, but im not 100% sure yet.

Basically I have one SSD drive on a PCIe x12 slot on my Mobo, and im trying to set that up as a boot drive. Im at the start of the windows installation when I get to the part asking me to select the boot drive for the Windows files. Initially I cant see anything. After loading and installing the drivers im stuck with the error:

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."

Now I know there are a ton of little fixes for this problem, Ive searched everywhere for a way to get this to work. Ive tried installing the drivers via disc and USB. Removing the USB drive after driver installation at various points. Ive also tried re-arranging the boot properties of my system in various ways...

Im just deppressed that ive gotten this rig so far only to be stopped now.

    Anyone have any ideas?'

EDIT: BTW, its an OCZ Revodrive x3 SSD on an ASUS Crosshair IV extreme Mobo

Hi Saladan0.Welcome to Computer Help Forums.
I have had no experience with SSD drives as yet.
Have you manually tried to create system partitions?
Be patient and Dalo should be able to give you advice.

Thank you very much for the help.

Ive tried to format/partition it a few different ways. Initially, the drive wouldnt come up even with the drivers loaded. However I took it to a friends computer and he formatted it there. The drive comes up now as an option, but I get the error stated above. Now I have an option during the process in which the installer will format or partition the drive for me, but im still getting the error.

Is this Install Disc an ISO by any chance or the real deal?
Unusual to get an option and an error at the same time.

Real deal. The SSD is brand new and came with a disc. The first time I tried to install with the drivers, I got an error.

One of the "Fixes" was that due to the computer freaking out when you take out the Windows OS disc to put in he driver disc, it would give you an error. So I also copied the discs drivers over to a flashdrive and tried it that way.

Needless to say im still having problems.

I believe that DSTM was referring to the Windows disk. Is it genuine and if not new, how was it used before?

Ah, Initially no. The original disc I was using to install was a Windows 8 devolopers preview. However, after all these problems I thought it was the windows 8 disc being the cause, as its to be expected for a beta to be glitchy and the like.

However earlier today I went out an bought a brand new Windows 7 disc and right out of the wrapper I have had the same exact problems as with the previous disc.

OK first take what I say as coming from someone with minimal hardware knowledge so maybe I will learn from you but I was under the impression that a PCIe slot was an expansion slot and not for a primary HDD. Now that is where a real hardware expert may be needed here.

Further to BeeCeeBee's last post I understood SSD's were Sata and had to be installed in a Sata Port.

I read the following on the site which may give more insight into this:
It seems to me that your MOBO may not be able to recognize this technology as being bootable and thus the problem. Is your MOBO listed among those posted in the link provided in the note?

Its on the non compatable list as far as "BIOS update 0502"

That gives me some hope that there will be a work around for this later. It makes sense. Because in this Mobos bios is just brought up sata connections for Harddrives.

Im going to get a 2TB hard drive from a friend, and then someday if a patch comes out I can move the boot files to the SSD.

Well I have been speaking to DSTM during this whole process and we both learned a lot. It really is interesting technology. I can see how this would be driving you crazy but it is clear that you will need to have a sata drive to boot from.

This is partly my fault as well. This is my first computer and I wanted to make a nice gaming rig. So I started out ALOT more complicated than I probably should have for my experience level.

But this computer is a thing of beauty.

Thanks for your help guys. Hopefully this TB drive works.
