I reinstalled Window 7 that I got when I purchased a new computer. The CD is from Microsoft. I let the system run fro a number of hours as it updates many of the files. When I reinstalled windows before, it recognized both monitors.

Is there any way to get it to recognize both monitors or do I have to start over and reinistall windows again? Is so, what is the best way to erase the SSD before reinstalling windows?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Yes. I used drivers provided by the monitor supplier, ViewSonic.

I think you may be confusing "activating" the other display through the Windows 8 (or your GPU) control panel and it being "recognized". meaning, just because you see a black screen and no picture at all does not mean that the display isn't being recognized, but it may not be "displaying" because you may need to "activate" dual displays. How about this. Lets get a picture of your setup, and the model number of both displays, and how you have them each hooked up (HDMI-VGA-DVI). Do you even see a power light turned on (though the monitor isn't currently displaying anything) at all? There should be a button around the bottom of the display or the side where you turn it on. You "might" have accidentally switched it off it does happen.

    Some things to think about
    ------------------------------------

    1. You say there were no changes at all other than the hard drive, but lets think hard about any changes you might have have made -- even connection wise from one of the displays to the computer.

    2. Did you actually take the advice here, and watch those youtube videos, and did you then attempt to get into the Windows 8 Display properties where you can toggle on the extra display?

See this screenhot -- and try to toggle the other display (the one that isn't showing anything) as your main display, and then tell us what happens.
